Making a difference during challenging times

The COVID-19/Coronavirus situation is continually and quickly evolving. Throughout this time, the Credit Union remains in close contact with all the relevant local government agencies for the latest updates that affect our operations and is actively working to minimize disruptions to Members’ ability to conduct essential transactions. We've taken measures to ensure the health and well-being of our staff and Members and we are also actively developing ways to help Members best service debt obligations during this time when incomes have been negatively impacted.

Stay tuned to this page as well as the Credit Union latest news blog, for all the latest updates on changes to operations, further detail on conducting transactions, and other important information.

1 May 2020: Expanded Hours of Operation Starting 4 May

The government recently announced an adjustment to the "shelter-in-place" requirements which now allow the Credit Union to expand in-branch hours operation. Starting Monday, 4 May, the Credit Union branch on Grand Cayman will now be open from 9am-3pm and the Cayman Brac branch from 9am-11am & 12:30pm-3pm. This schedule will continue daily, Monday-Friday, for as long as deemed necessary and we will continue to keep you informed of all changes.

We would like to remind Members that while we’ve expanded our hours of operation, we continue to comply with government regulations to manage the spread of COVID-19 virus. This “shelter-in-place” order requires that we continue observing social/physical distancing and sanitation protocols. This includes limiting the number of Members in the branch, requiring a minimum of 6 foot distance between those waiting in line, and hand sanitizing when entering the lobby. We also strongly encourage Members visiting the branches to wear a mask. Additionally, in the Grand Cayman branch, we continue to reserve the first hour of service for the elderly and otherwise health-compromised individuals.

6 APRIL 2020: EASTER HOLIDAY CLOSURES and updated branch visits by surname

As of 6 April 2020, visits to the Credit Union branches based on surname were adjusted again to limit exposure to COVID-19. These adjustments in conjunction with the upcoming Easter weekend public holidays on Friday and Monday, 10 and 13 April will further impact branch visitation.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Members with surnames starting with A - K
Tuesdays and Thursdays: Members with surnames starting with L - Z

IMPORTANT NOTE: The branches will be closed on Friday, 10 April and Monday, 13 April in observance of the Good Friday and Easter public holidays.

This means that some Members will not be able to visit the Credit Union until after the holiday. If your surname begins with L - Z, you will need to visit the Credit Union on Thursday, 9 April. Otherwise, you will need to wait until after the holiday.

As of Wednesday, 1 April, the Credit Union will implement a new procedure to manage queues during our current limited branch hours. This is in compliance with the government's latest announcement regarding challenges with crowding at banks and other essential businesses. Members will be able to visit both the Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac branches on certain days based on surname.

For this week (31 March - 3 April), the procedure will be as follows:
Tuesday, 31 March: Members with all surnames
Wednesday, 1 April: Members with surnames starting with A - K
Thursday, 2 April: Members with surnames starting with L - Z
Friday, 3 April: Members with all surnames

Please click the button below for further detail on this procedure including the plan for the week starting 6 April 2020.

20 March 2020: In-branch Hours Adjusted to Reduce Face-to-Face Contact

As we've continued to monitor the COVID-19 situation in our community, we've determined that it is necessary to take additional measures to protect the health and safety of our Members and staff by limiting the number of hours for face-to-face, in-branch transactions. Therefore, we will adjust our in-branch hours of operation starting 23 March 2020. Click the button to see specific details.

18 march 2020:  REduced interest rates & loan waivers

On Wednesday, 18 March, the CICSA Co-operative Credit Union Board of Directors approved three measures to assist Members during this time when incomes may have been negatively impacted by reductions in current economic activity caused by the knock-on effect of the COVID-19 crisis.
Firstly, it will lower interest rates by 1% for loans effective 1 April 2020 on all except unsecured loans. Secondly, it will defer all April 2020 loan payments across the board. The decision to defer loan payments for subsequent months will be evaluated monthly. The reduced interest rate and loan waivers will apply to Members in good standing.
Lastly, there will be additional considerations to defer loan payments for up to 3 months for Members working in severely impacted industries experiencing financial hardship.

conducting non-branch transactions

Credit Union Members have the option to conduct transactions without visiting the branch. At present these include:

  • Email
  • Telephone
  • Online
  • ATM

In response to our request for Members to minimize branch visits, our email and phone transactions have steadily increased. To facilitate this process, we have placed drop boxes in our lobby during business hours where Members can place necessary documents should they feel uneasy to send by email. These boxes are closely monitored and frequently emptied. Our Member Services and Loans teams are diligently responding to these.

13 march 2020: In-Branch safetly Measures

If a visit to a Credit Union branch is unavoidable, Members should be aware of the procedures in place to limit the number of people at any one time.

Grand Cayman - Security staff will monitor Members as they enter and limit the number in the lobbies as well as in the teller area.

Cayman Brac – Staff will limit the number of Members in the branch to a maximum of 3.

In addition to the above, the Credit Union requests that all visitors heed the official recommendations to:

  • Wash your hands frequently & thoroughly
  • Cover your nose & mouth when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoid anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms
  • Practice “social distancing”, i.e., maintain a minimum of 1 meter (3 feet) between you and the next individual in line.
