What is a Credit Union?

Credit Unions are financial institutions dedicated to serving their members/owners. They consists of members that join together to pool their savings to provide themselves with credit.

What advantages do credit unions have over regular retail banks?

Credit Unions are Share-Based savings and lending institutions. At the end of each financial year, a percentage of the net income(derived from loans and investments) is given back to each member in the form of dividends. At Annual General Meetings, the Members of Credit Unions have a voice in the overall decisions made in many aspects of  the operation of Credit Unions.

What type of deposit Services does The Credit Union offer?

Our Credit Union offers a Special Savings Account, the Credit Union Shares Account, and Fixed Term Deposits.

What is a Special Savings Account?

A Special Savings Account is the standard savings account created for members who need to move funds in and out of this account. There is no minimum deposit required, but interest rates are lower than the Share Account.

What is a Share Account?

A Share Account is your membership account. It provides an annual dividend of up to 6%, qualifies you for life insurance benefits and provides borrowing power. It also entitles you to vote on certain matters at Annual General Meetings.

What is a Fixed Deposit?

A Fixed Deposit can provide short or long term investing with a fixed interest rate for the term of investment. Fixed Deposit Applications must be filled out at the Credit Union office.

What are the advantages of Fixed Deposit?

Interest rates are usually half of one percent higher than most commercial banks and are guaranteed for the length of the term. Funds may be withdrawn prior to the maturity of the deposit (penalty may apply).

What length of term is required?

Terms range from one month to three years.

What is the minimum investment?

$1,000 is the minimum investment required.
